Job shadowing & Career guidance

Job shadowing and Career guidance

Based on the current education system in Tanzania, students have been focusing on performing well in the final examinations so that they can qualify for high school and universities. However, the curriculum has not been designed for students to be exposed to different careers and opportunities for them to explore.

In addition to this, most of the Tanzanian Secondary Schools have been academic orientated excluding extra curricula, which leads to students being less exposed to activities, and opportunities that lead to open-mindedness. This project aims at creating awareness and expanding horizons for students so that they can be exposed to different academic, extra-curricular and leadership opportunities.

This project enables the students to learn from alumni, successful Tanzanian students studying across the world as well as expertise from various fields. Career guidance session is accompanied with Job shadowing. This links schools and businesses by providing students with an opportunity to spend time in a real workplace. Students learn from professionals about the skills and competencies necessary to be successful. They need this kind of connection to businesses, because in today’s service economy they often do not know exactly what adults do at work, as young people did in agrarian and industrial times.

Job shadowing links schools and businesses by providing students with an opportunity to spend time in a real workplace. Students learn from professionals about the skills and competencies necessary to be successful. They need this kind of connection to businesses, because in today’s service economy they often do not know exactly what adults do at work, as young people did in agrarian and industrial times.

Job shadowing helps students learn about work by taking them behind the scenes in a business, often providing their first real look at jobs in the 21st Century. Spending time at a work site can even help change students’ attitudes about school and about their future. This program acts as a bridge between young people making career decisions with the potential employees in particular fields of interest. It aims at creating awareness and expanding horizons for students so that they can be exposed to different academic, extra-curricular and leadership opportunities.

The Program serves as a platform that will enable the students to learn from employers the available job market for their fields of study as well as what to expect in those fields.
